Okay, guys - just trying to get a feeling for what styles of baguazhang are being practiced in North America, and by what ratio of people.
The feeling I get right now is that the most common styles are:
1. Gao style (in particular, the Zhang Junfeng lineage from Taiwan), via Xu Hongji, Luo Dexiu, and Liu Shuhang of Tianjin (via NATST) (not a single organization, they just all happen to do Gao style). Gao style had a jump-start, I think, because Taiwan opened up earlier than China (but Wang Shujin's style seems rather small in North America on the other hand).
2. Yin style via Xie Peiqi and He Jinbao, through a substantial number of practice groups throughout North America. Seems like their sort-of grass-roots organization thing is working well, they seem to be increasing in numbers lately.
3. Liang style predominantly via NATST (Vince Black's organization) and other related folks (Tom Bisio, etc.). Fairly quiet organization, but I think they are out there...
4. Park Boknam's baguazhang via Lu Shuitian (single organization, I think? Maybe there was another guy from Lu Shuitian).
5. John Painter's organization - also a strong organization.
6. Bruce Kumar Frantzis's baguazhang via Liu Hongjie (single organization, predominantly seminar style).
There are of course others, but they seem to be limited to one (or maximum two) teacher(s) in general.
So, what is the feeling you guys get?
