Yeah, he is a famous guy and I love the atmosphere in his art. The original painting that Bill posted sold for a hell a lot of money. *sigh*

You can actually tweak the "level of distortion" by staring into (keeping your eyes on) a spot that's closer to the faces... E.g. forget the middle area -- try looking at the right edge of the whole thing, mid-way up (at the center of the right border of the image) -- you get some slightly-caricatured faces that you can actually recognize really well. If you can manage to get even closer to the eyes (like their ears, or better yet -- try the side of a jaw, easier to keep the eyes on), the distortion is even more subtle...
