Sun Style Taiji

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

graham, white crane is a kicking or defensive technique. the hands block high and low/fwd. the empty leg blocks kicks or delivers one.

Sounds more like Yang style.

ah I see. it's opens up someone's arms and moves in for double push. kinda like the yang style splitting heel kick right after the high pat on horse, combined with a double push instead.

Could be. I can also see a possibility for an arm lock like Michael describes.

It's at 0.25-ish in this clip - I quite like this old guy ;D

Ohhh, me too.

But if you can't find a good Sun taiji teacher, get a good Zhaobao taiji teacher. You'll love it.

I have never seen anyone else play the Sun-style 97 Posture that way and I prefer the more common approach ... but, I also like the way the old fella moved, for the most part. He had obviously invested a lot of time in the way he did that form and was very smooth within the context of his approach.

The speed wasn't excessive though it was faster than the normal 6-8 minute range advocated for the execution of the traditional set.

You can play with a taiji form any way you want. There is nothing wrong with that. But a set of movements, certain movements in a certain order, does not make a "style". Every "style" has it's own focus, it's own way to deal with balance, structure, rythm etc. I see nothing even close to Sun style here.

But to be frank, there are actually two different Sun styles out there. One is Sun Lutang style and one is Sun Jianyun style. Sun Lutang always kept the structural integrity (and to it's rules) of Wu/Hao. Sun Jianyun didn't...

You can always study with Wing Lam (uh-oh, I think I hear JAB growling in the background). 8-)
