a Wu Taiji article by Stephan Yan that i liked

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

I thought I would just clarify the list at the end of the article as the Wu Style complete system.

Although Dr Yan mentioned the 8 Posture Nei Gong set in the article, it was missed off the list at the end. So the complete list of the Wu Tai Chi System as taught by Master Ma and Master Wu is as follows:

Nei Gong:
• Hun Yun Zhuang Nei Gong
• Five Elements Nei Gong
• 8 Posture Nei Gont
• Taiji Yin Yang 24 Methods (also called 'tai ji gong", was the one Master Wu Jian Quan learned from Master Song Shu Ming 宋书铭whom was Song Yuan Qiao's宋远桥 17th generation decendent, and Song Yuan Qiao宋远桥 was a disciple of Fu Zi Li麸子李in early Ming Dynasty ,Fu Zi Li 麸子李 was a direct disciple of the great taiji founder Zhang San Feng.Master Song Shu Ming 宋书铭wrote a book called "taiji gong太极功"in 1916 , when Master Wu Jian Quan met Master Song , Song was also a secreatary of China president 袁世凯)

Forms:
• Modefied Form by Master Ma and Master Wu
• Slow Form (founded by Master Wu Jian Quan)
• Fast Form (Zhang San Fong's original 13posture soft hands)
• Single moves' practise of above forms

Push hands:
• Single person practice
• Two persons basic practice (5 types for single hand and 3 for double hands)
• Also for two person push hands there are distance and near methods,Upper ,middle and lower sections method 13 types,8 Types of dynamic stepping and finally “Lan Cai Hua”

Weapons:
• Taiji Broad sword
• Jian Kun sword
• Seven Star sword
• Lian Huang sword
• Double sword
• 6 sets of sticking sword(two person)
• 24 Spear
• Life Saving 3 Spear
• 13 Spear
• Sticking Spear( two sets of two man Sticking Staff --spear without head)
• Nian Lian 4 Spears
• Nian Li 4 Spears
• 4 SHAN SPEAR

For those of you interested in the Wu Style Fast Form, and may have seen some of the detractors’ discussions relating to its supposed creation by Master Ma in the eighties (despite his statements to the contrary – that this was the original form from Yang Luchan taught to all his students), the following links may be of interest.

http://xchjwd.blog.163.com/blog/static/ ... 211015351/

http://fistandantilux.blog.163.com/blog ... 194341131/

These links show that Master Ma actually demonstrated the Wu Style Fast Form in 1954 at a ‘Friendship Meeting’ of the Shanghai Wu Shu Society, held from 7-9pm on the 21-06-1954.

Master Ma is number 61 on the list below, translated as “Ma Yue Liang Fast Tai Chi Quan”

Of note, some of the Masters that attended this event are still alive today.

Nick C,

your teacher was banned here for a good reason. He and his opinions aren't welcome here. Stop using your account to post his stuff. I know it's from him, because you told me that you didn't speak Chinese.
I let this discussion go and did not explicate why your teacher simply cannot be a disciple of Ma's. So do me a favour and let this die too.
Your teacher's post also misrepresents the points I made about Ma Yueliang's fast form. I do have a lot of new evidence that show how Quan You's form actually looked like. So it would be better for you to be quite about it.

cdobe,

Actually the links were found by others, and passed on to Dr Yan and myself. They are not Dr Yan's sites, nor did he publish them - and the translation is correct is it not?

I also never directed the post at you, as I was not aware it was your argument the form was created in the 80's. It is however an argument I have seen many times around the web, hence the interest in a 1954 demonstration of the Wu style fast form.

As for the disciple issue, not that I brought that up AT ALL in MY post, I will happily believe written evidence from Master Ma himself that addresses Dr Yan as one (and the numerous videos and photos that show the same) over others statements to the contrary. The letter is on the web for all to see should you so wish.

Regarding evidence about what Quan You's form looked like, I personally would love to see it. I like to see any and all evidence available on a subject, and from a historical perspective any evidence would be important to Tai Chi in general I think.

who cares. this is in BTDT of all places too. can you leave Nick alone? stephen yan wasn't banned for posting this type of thing anyway. it was because of a personal back and forth w/ another guy, right? so if Nick doesn't post that kind of stuff i don't see why anyone would have a problem w/ it.

if it doesn't make sense, it's because I'm "typing" with Swype or using android's voice to text, which is pretty damn good by the way
