France vs. USA

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

France vs. USA

Postby Ian on Mon Jun 23, 2008 11:15 pm

I've been playing this back and forth in my mind lately. Which country's better? France or the US?

I mean, both present compelling arguments. France is anti-freedom and full of hordes of unwashed gays. The US suffers from fat-asses and a grave military-industrial complex. I just can't make up my mind.

Post your arguments - for or against either country! Hopefully we can put this to bed once and for all.

For martial arts it's the States.

Well in the USA, you can get a big dose of French-ness in Louisiana, so that's the best of both worlds. The 1998 "award winning"* film Waterboy documented this clearly.

France (or at least my impression of it) seems to have too much nationalism and resulting anti-foreigner sentiment (especially against black people). They have good food, but the US isn't so bad, either (lots of variety, due to immigrants).

The US does have a lot of its own problems (the government seems to be a militant theocracy), but I would still rather live there. As for the fat people - heh, heh, they are fun to watch, no fat off my back...

Ian, are you American?

I'm asking because another thing you have to factor is right now Americans aren't too popular in Europe.

So if you are you may have to put up with a lot of BS while you're there.

I've lived in Europe before and as much as I like it I don't think I would want to go through that again unless I was doing something I really liked. I'm not saying I can't handle it but at least in the States I don't have to deal with the, "Where are you from?" bullshit even as a minority.

Where I live here in the States no one really cares where you're from either way, everyone just does there own thing.

The U.S. might well have been late to the last world war but France was knocked out in the opening round...Even the Italians came better placed!

French...burn sheep, blow up greenpeace ships and slag off australian wine whilst planting vines there...
from a UK perspective 1 previous dust-up with America 1-0 to the U.S....well played chaps.
against the French, well Agincourt ring a bell? You haven't sucessfully done us over at home since 1066 so to quote a football chant..
wwoooooooooooooooooooo , your sh!t,aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
the entente ain't that cordiale

rather yank than franc...

I've heard it's normal to get 7 weeks vacation in France. That sounds pretty damn good.
