It aint all that bona fide

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

Wa haha... Very funny stuff... The song was too hard to understand, though... :( (I blame my German teachers!)

Commentary:

"Ich hab' dich lieb" sounds like "I have dick loved" or something to my English ears :D How does the nuance change from "Ich liebe dich?" How do you call someone a dick in German, anyway? (My, er, erstwhile attempt: "Du bist such ein dich!")

I guess that in terms of frequency of usage of "I love you" as a phrase, we have:

America (often) > Germany (rarely) > Japan (never)

This is interesting, considering that Japanese often consider themselves the "Germans of Asia" :D To be fair, they do sometimes use the word "love," but usually for things like "love-sword" (favorite/most-well-used sword), "love-dog" (favorite/companion dog), etc., but that is different.

I hear that in the early days, when American movies were first subtitled for Japanese audiences, they substituted "I love you" with "you've lost weight"... :D

Maybe there are some nice German CMA sites out there just waiting for me to practice my Deutsch on? :D

The German word 'dick' means thick. And 'such' would mean 'search!'. Here's a fantastic site for vocabulary, that will even pronounce the words for you: http://www.dict.cc/.

You might have a look at this forum: http://www.kampfkunst-board.info/

You'll find all the German speaking guys there, who are registered here.

Thanks for the resources, one step at a time... :)

Your German isn't all that bona fide. :D

When you just say 'thanks' it's 'danke'. But when it's a substantive it's 'Dank', without the e and with a capital letter. There is no plural form of this. It's like the word 'gratitude'. You can feel a lot of gratitude, not a lot of gratitudes.

That was the point. Ask Gretel, She'll tell you that I'm a murderer of languages :D

Mix is a master of language, in fact he invents new languages all the time, but he can't spell worth a damn.

Ohhhh... "Ich hab' dich lieb" - is lieb a noun now? Why can't you say "Ich habe Liebe fur dich" instead? Or why isn't it "Ich hab' dich Liebe?"

Damn, they never taught us such simple things in German class... :(
