LKJ / empty force explanation

The following typical threads that plague martial arts sites will get moved here if not just deleted: 1 - My style is better than Your style" - 2 - "Internal & External" - 3 - Personal attacks - 4 - Threads that start well, but degenerate into a spiral of nonsense.

LKJ / empty force explanation

Postby ShortFormMike on Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:56 pm

It's been brought up on a few occasions including the last thread about Yang Shouzhong's students: most lkj people are completely devoid of real skill, however, there are a few people with skill that do it. Indeed a few are even highly skilled. What's up with that?

It's their students! How does the saying go, masters and disciples mutually enslave each other. Surround a normal sized human ego with a bunch of people who are hero seekers/worshipers and sure enough they'll get the mystical experience they desire whether it's really there or not.
if it doesn't make sense, it's because I'm "typing" with Swype or using android's voice to text, which is pretty damn good by the way

Is LKJ mystical? And how is it mystical?
This might help out on some other threads?

Has anyone really experienced the result of LKJ from another person? This may be a good starting point to reasonably answer ShortFormMike.

No, karlson....no one has really experienced the result of LKJ from another person. Martial telekinesis does not exist. ShortFormMike can now consider himself fully answered.

And, uh.....oh yeah........BTDT.

Karlson:

I have - sort of.

I was training under a very good gongfu master in South Korea about a decade ago - this guy had real skills, but was getting very interested in qigong and had a lot of students who were training that stuff. I was training with him privately in Bagau and he asked if I wanted to experience the no-touch force. Naturally, I said yes. We were alone in his school. He stood about 10 feet in front of me and I just stood in a neutral stance. I said 'I will close my eyes' (I have read about hypnotism) and waited to be pushed or thrown. Well, nothing happened. So then I did it with eyes open. He was making all the appropriate hand movements - nothing. He just kind of shrugged and so did I; I did not pursue it. (Frankly, I would have loved for it to have worked) and continued training with him in orthodox CMA for a year or so more.

Interestingly, he COULD make his local students fall down with no trouble with this trick.

IHMO, it is all in the mind and if you WANT to believe enough, you will. I, alas, remain a skeptic at heart.

It's all social-psychological manipulation. Some people can be awed into responding, which is why you often see this stuff paired with sifu worship. Anyone who offers this stuff as more than a psychological parlor trick, though, stands revealed as a martial fraud.

And it's too bad, for I would like LKJ to exist. It would be very useful if it did; for example, it would be a great boon to infantry if they didn't have to carry their weapons and all that ammo.
I define internal martial art as unusual muscle recruitment and leave it at that. If my definition is incomplete, at least it is correct so far as it goes.
