Thanks - I had no idea of the Kaifeng-Xinyi Liuhe or Gansu-Biangan links. (& indeed need to brush up on the distinction between Xinyi Liuhe & Xinyi...)
Several of these place have more-or-less inexpensive Chinese programs (from $~3k/year inc accommodation) which could also be a way in. (Kunming Uni of Science & Tech & Kunming Metallurgy College also have some of the cheapest, Kunming has quite a few Sha GuoZheng people & a training hall.)
I also just found an affordable-looking* Taiji program in Handan (where Yang & Wu Taiji originated & presumably are still the real deal):

UPDATE: more info buried here:
http://www.admissions.cn/hdc/cn5.htmlAccommodation is RMB28-40/day (10-15,000/year), other fees low (no reg fee, RMB300 insurance, RMB300-500 for books) Canteen RMB10-15/meal. Works out around RMB27,000-32,000/year inc room & board.
Seems like there's a Taiji batchelors
