"Have You Hold a Woman Before?"

Discussion on the three big Chinese internals, Yiquan, Bajiquan, Piguazhang and other similar styles.

"Have You Hold a Woman Before?"

Postby Strange on Sun Feb 12, 2017 7:27 am

Li ZhongXuan followed Tang WeiLu learned many complicated and physically taxing zhanzhuang methods
usually standing for one to two hours each time, holding arms out in a hugging position is too simple,
making him unable to understand where he should apply tension to support his posture.

unexpectedly, while standing infront of Shang YunXiang for a short while, Shang said something very strange:
"Have you hold a woman before?"
This seemingly unrelated question seemed to let Li have some understanding
allowing him to relax his whole body
Shang said: "Correct."

Hsiang was obviously teaching him the importance of the concept of embracing. I believe it is called "bao" in Chinese.

To get it right I would add 'woman with big tits'...
If you see someone without a smile - give 'em one of yours...

After he saw me training with hard punches, Shang YunXiang said:
"you practice in this manner is ok for training for fighting method;
but for training method, it should not be this way.

In training, it should be "lightly go out, heavily back in".
this means that the hitting hand is very light, while the
hand that is returning back to the body should feel like
you are holding something."

"what you see ppl teach outside, can easily make a person
confused; because in xingyi, we have fighting method,
training method and demo method"

"those who do not know just mix up all three and use it to
teach others."

we have fighting method,
training method and demo method

No disrespect to past and present masters, I don't buy into this. Maybe I don't interpret this right.

We have limited resources - time, energy etc so can only put our efforts in what we want. To train for fight would put all the energy, body, clearance of own blockage, power, and mind power to blow off his head with one punch, or punch through the body and break/tear whatever you can get when pulling the hand back. To train for demo would be focused on what the audiences would like to see. To hold a woman would be to fully engage in enjoying the feeling, softness/scent of her body, and the interaction.

we have fighting method, training method and demo method

Fighting method - punch out fast, pull back fast.
training (for health) method - punch out slow, pull back fast.
demo method - punch out fast, freeze punch, pull back fast.

Fighting method - nature breathing.
training (for health) method - inhale when punch out, exhale when pull punch back.
demo method - exhale when punch out, inhale when pull punch back.

It is the thing I don't get and being confused.

Martial art is for survival and fight, isn't it. Training for health is health exercise or health qigong, and training for demo is performance art. Don't think can call it martial art if train for health and demo as a major goal. As a by-product, yes.

Agree with you 100% there. Since 李仲轩 was a CMA for health person, his point of view may not suit for many people. I have his book. When I read his book, I don't quite believe what he had said such as someone could run faster than car speed.

to be sure, "health" when discussing in icma has the meaning of
increasing one's bodily function, organ strength, musculoskeletal strength and alignment,
depth and smoothness of breathing.

so when you see past masters discussing martial arts for health, they do not see it as
mutually exclusive to/with fighting. In fact, more "health" would equate to better
fighting ability.

Some yiquan masters and practitioners use the term "wei sheng" (as in meaning of
"hygiene" in common chinese parlance), but their meaning for the term is
being "pro-life", as in increasing life energy, instead of subtracting from it...
by mistakenly adopting practices that may be bad for the body system,
for example.
