Zhang Kejian was the epitome of Kung-Fu excellence.
He did one hand chin up 80 times per hands in his prime, and in a fast pace.

Hi Overlord,

It seems you removed a post before I had a chance to respond to it.

Is your Fanzi from the Ma family system? If so, I wonder why you felt like it was lacking power and had to add JKD's inch punch to it.

JKD's inch punch is mainly based on WC, which relies on body mechanics that are very different from Fanzi, Tongbei, and Pigua for power generation.

Mr. Strange,

How nice of you to grace us with the presence of your Singaporean English -- I was just beginning to miss you. :D

Yes, it's true that old-timers used to say if you practice your kung-fu a thousand times, you will automatically "get" it -- as if all you need to do is physically train rather than use your head.

But in my opinion, that's actually the BS teachers feed to their students to conveniently withhold vital knowledge from them and prevent them from "getting too good too soon." :-X

Being attentive to detail is most certainly not the same as being anal and splitting hair because, as I'm sure you are also aware of with your years of experience, detail is all that matters in IMA.

If you understand the small little crucial details that make a technique work, doing it 10 times mindfully beats doing it 1000 times mindlessly.

Intelligentized hair-splitting
...just out of curiosity, figuratively speaking,
do you practice in a manner that is "10 times mindfully" ?

CJW,

A senior sonographer tells me this story~
When he firstly started sonography, he work his butt off, he did scan like 1600 cases per year.
But his technique was terrible, picture were poor, and he was very frustrated ~

So after three years on the job, one day his supervisor thought he was ready,
Just told him, you need to do a rib hook to optimize the picture
He told me he felt enlightened, and from then on his picture quality turns great

So he felt the fellow new beginners can learn a thing or two from this two words, so he tried to teach them
And he used the exactly the same sentence “just do a rib hook”
The problem is most of the new hands didn’t know what he was saying,
Some even laugh at him, ridicule his technique

He told me later on he understood what the problem is
Those new hands did not do 1600 scans per year for three years
And just told them the words like rib hook does not make any sense at all.

For a boxer, he will probably think of punch under the ribs.
