what you are getting is your own private chat server. not that crazy flash chat client thing you tried to use before. (cracker paradise)

you will have your own server through which any chat client can connect. with a little testing and a bunch of research you should be able to get something slick and well integrated into the forum.

so apparently the chat thing that uncarved was talking about was only for people with rsf e-mail accts.
the chat we have a license for is a security risk, so we'd again have to do a hosted option, and before we do that I'd like to get NPO status so we can all make tax deductible donations... sigh. so many things to do, so little time....

The old forum's chat was a completely separate thing... and worked out fine. Maybe we can find a nice free one (hopefully non-flash!) and just link it here, somewhere near the top of the main page, and be done with it already. Free and painless (for the admins/IT team), just like it used to be.

If you go with the rsf email user chat you can archive all conversations. Please consider that the account creation is a small inconvenience that is far outweighed by security, performance and standards compliance.
