Planned Improvements

Postby nianfong on Fri May 02, 2008 2:18 pm

- Live Chat
- rank icons will be designed by devere himself--probably over the weekend
- new skin whenever devere feels like designing it (it will be an option for users to choose)
- the top banner will be clickable to return you to the main board index page
- a new button will be added somewhere (probably near the search bar) that will take you to Devere's original Xingyiquan database (please give your input where you think it would go best)

Maybe move the search box down a bit and put a link above it, like this:
Image
(actually, only the 'David DeVere' part should be the link/underlined; the rest should probably be just plain text)

Or, maybe make the whole banner (I mean the image part of it) the link -- we already have 'Board Index' always at the top anyway... Add a tooltip (title) there, saying something like "Original design by David DeVere"

That link to DeVere's site is a good idea. I liked that fact that the old forum was hard to get to - to find it you had to navigate through DeVere's XY pages- I always thought that was a good thing, because before a noob got here they had to know a little bit about XingYi Quan, and that this was a board for discussion of internal arts, and also those pages are damn nice. Also a lot of basic info that gets asked for time and time again is already on those pages.

I like the idea of clicking on the images to get there....BUT the images at the top say "forum" on them, so its counter intuitive that it takes you to the database. I'd probably vote for a link from the images to the Home page of the forum, and a new text link to "David DeVere's XingYi Database", or something similar.

My 2 cents.

thanks for the input graham--it's one of the reasons why we asked you here ;)
we are already going to make the main banner take you back to the main forum board index.
we are going to add a separate button near the search bar, that will take you back to devere's original xingyi database.

How about embedding outside pages in a thread?

Also quotes can be minimized. Clicking on them would maximize them (again from CK).

Is it a "not-yet-employed" feature of the software, or are you coding it? Just curious.

I've already added the necessary .php files and made the code mods (done by phpBB peeps). I just need to update the html in the style files now.

I'm just wondering how big a deal that one is... It's a "nice-to-have", but definitely not a must -- the standard reply feature loads pretty fast/is efficient... Others' mileage may vary of course, but if it's taking too much time/resources, I'd say, snuff it.

agreed, it's definitely not a requirement. however, it would be nice to implement before we go live, since it's not a simple change.

Currently planned improvements, 2008, May 12:
1) Live chat -- likely to be a hosted option
2) avatar resizing (currently unavailable in phpBB mods)
[done] 3) marquee Side-scrolling text, left and right
4) clickable banner on top, returning to Board Index [mostly done, need to eliminate image resizing on clickable image]

Like I said in the other thread, the software gave me an option to resize my avatar, and it worked fine. Changed it from 320 x 320 to 90 x 90 as I specified.
