If you could also look into making cookies work, that would be great! Right now they seem to be ignored by phpBB. So, checking "Log me on automatically each visit" when logging in doesn't make any difference, and I (and the rest of the users, I suppose) have to log in over and over again each time the forum is visited. Really annoying. Thanks!

fixing cookies is not really an option. phpbb isn't designed to run on loadbalanced servers. it's only one puny additional mouse click to save the login info and let your browser fill the form each visit.

Hi, I've been getting a warning sign saying privacy error, move back to safty for the last couple days when I type in rumsoakedfist.org.
Just wondering if anyone else has started to have that issue or if there is any connection to this move?
thanks

the security setting means our connection is not enctypted. there is no need for encryption for this forum. your credentials and session info is safe.

offtopic answer. here is a password method I read a while back (before all the talk that special characters aren't as good as a long passphrase):

start with a difficult password or phrase only you know. normally people would stop here. you can change this part very rarely.
add a random string (there are generators for this) and write it down on a piece of paper and keep it on your person. if it's lost or stolen, it won't compromise anything. change this monthly.
add a word or phrase based on the specific site or app using some coding scheme you have memorized.
doesn't have to be in that order.

the result is a very long string (impossible to guess, nearly impossible to brute force) that changes monthly (that is the hard part) and is not reused on any other site and should meet all stupid password rules.

use 2 factor authentication on top of that.

do bullshit stuff one computer and in one logon. do important stuff on a "safe" computer and separate logon. don't use Windows OSes. Don't use Linux unless you are a power sysadmin type.

i've implemented nginx http://nginx.org as a front end. it should make all these damn bots a little more manageable. let me know if you see any weirdness.

I was getting the "your connection is not secure" on firefox for the last 72 hours or so.

Tried to bypass that by clicking on advanced and permitting access but then got some "Apache server" screen and couldn't get any further than that. Today is the first day I've been able to actually see the forum though it is logging me out intermittently (while writing this post for example).

i don't have any secure access on this forum. your session info is safe. i'm glad you were able to get through. be sure to clear your cached info for rsf.

linux mint is great for safe desktop use. other ubuntu variants are more sysadmin-ny. https://linuxmint.com/about.php

Then perhaps RSF should not be running on load balanced servers; we could scale up rather than out.
We should talk off-line, message me.

How much is a software upgrade anyway? Maybe put it up on GoFundMe and see if there's enough interest along the members to take it up a notch...
