Discussion on the three big Chinese internals, Yiquan, Bajiquan, Piguazhang and other similar styles.

what are you training right now?

Postby nianfong on Tue May 13, 2008 8:16 pm

typical training session right now:
running 1 mi, rowing machine 24-30 mins, kettlebell swings--like 40 each side for now, easing into it for my back.
30 mins stretching, 15-20 mins zhan zhuang/basic postures. shuajiao drills, jiao quan 1 form, jiao quan 2 (the 1/3 that I know), an element or two drilled a lot, 1 chang taichi long form as cool down.

zhan zhuang for 30-40 min, then 20-40 min of whatever moving stuff strikes my fancy to balance out the stillness.

warm up- Staking some shaolin chi kung about 15 min
Fo Gu Tai Chi- 3 rds
Pi Chuan about 70
Wu hsing about 30 each
Tiger shape 30
Link forms 1-4 X2
Roc/peng 30
weapon 2 rds

Been doing this for a while now.

does not take very long maybe 80 90 mins, some days a hour do less- try to practice least a hour a day- about 5 days a week. Very important that I try to be a consistant as possible- lose energy very fast with missed exercise days.

Not hard to practice- real hard to practice consistantly

Xingyi five elements 0.5 hour
Bagua walking and forms 1 hour.

Gonna throw some animals in again soon, I just changed my xingyi and it makes me very tired just to do the elements, so I'm taking it slowly.

This week looks like this-

day 1 - Hatha Yoga 1/2 dynamic 1/2 static 1.5 hours + power generation fist set (gong lik kuen)

day 2 - Core synergistics for 1 hour, many different exercises designed to engage all muscles in such a way as to fire the core +Power generating fist set

day 3 - Heavy Cardio for 1 hour, all different stuff, mostly tae bo like activities to get heart rate and breath up there and maintained up there for the hour +pgfs and fighting set (da kuen)

day 4- Hatha Yoga for 1.5 hours same as day 1 + pgfs +8 pieces of brocade

day 5 - Core synergistics for 1 hour same as above, about 16 or so different routines in this work out. +.5 hour of heavy bag work

day 6 - Heavy Cardio for 1 hour (trad cal + other stuff) + Ring Training + Staff routine

day 7 - rest/stretch +walkthrough

This is recovery week so it's not as intense as the other weeks. But basically Im still doing the P90X program combined with some parts of Sil Lum kungfu that I personally need to maintain.

I recommend this program to anyone that is fit and wants to get up a little more. combined with kungfu, you will feel great inside of 30 days barring physical or mental mess ups that is. In which case, I can't say anything about how you'll feel in 30 days doing this. :)
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

20 minutes standing stance
40 - 150 minutes circle walking
Palm changes (Liang, Yin, Cheng)
Liang 64 Palms 3x3
8 Gates 3x3
Often mixing this up with free style form work.
Trying to work specifically on each individual movement (refining technique)
Sparring/Rou Shou: When possible.

Solo practice:
1. Warm up/stretching, getting all the joints of the body to open up.
2. Either Wuxing nei gong, Ji Ben Shou Fa, Tien Gan, Pole shaking.
3. Xing Yi - 5 elements - solo forms and linkage
4. Hou Tian: I usually do the linkages that I know and then select a line to practice in depth.
5. Xian Tien: Forms and meditation practices
6. 8 Brocades - to cool the mind

Get up, perform Yin Yuan Yang Bu Dao Gong, then perform basic warm up (swing arms in circles, compress the chest and arc the back, the turtle for the neck, waist rotations, deep knee bends, feet together touch toes, pu bu). Then onto the actual exercises (mor jian/mor jian, shuan zhuang, guo feng bang, dun hou shi, yi zi bu, yow zi ru lin bang, si ba, wu xing), then pick up the "shi san gun" 13 length stick and perform a minimum of 100 "dou gun", then start other exercises, such as "shaking" di pan, etc.

Then break for lunch, then train again, this time with focus on more of the forms, shi da xing, qi xiao xing, qi pau, wu tang za shi, shi fa zhai yao, etc.

All up, 4 hours in a day at the moment, hopefully I can maintain this when I get back to New Zealand.

Jon.
