Discussion on the three big Chinese internals, Yiquan, Bajiquan, Piguazhang and other similar styles.

Liuhebafa

Hello All.

Am new to the forums. I have only been studying internal arts for a very very short time (3 months :o ). I study Yang style Taijiquan.

I have an interest in alll the Chinese Internal arts. To this end, I bought some books about the arts. One of the books related to Liuhebafa, aka Water Boxing. The book didn't go in to a great amount of detail (it was only 100 pages or so) about the art in some ways, but it claimed it was the "fourth major internal art". Sorta like being the fifth Beatle lol!!!

Seriously though, the book also mentioned that it had many of the ideas of Taijiquan, Xinyiquan and Baguazhang in its system e.g. the circular power of bagua, the direct power of xingyi etc....

Does anyone have any experience with this art? How "internal" is it? I have seen some clips on Youtube and based on my own inadequate knowledge of internal movement I can't say if it is or isn't. Here are some of the clips anyway:

I am currently studying LHBF with C K Chan in NY.He learnt it in HK over 50 years ago.As a veteran martial artist I studied several forms of TCC, Hsing yi and Bagua. I found the first form[the so called 'exercise form] to be interesting in terms of power generation and the techniques associated with it, it is very precise and exacting and generates considerable qi . i have yet to learn the fighting form but in the past learnt the sword form.
The form is considerably different from most of those shown on Youtube [which I feel have a TCC influence], I have no doubts as to its authenticity but have no wish to be drawn into BTDT territory with other practitioners-they do their thing, I do mine.

@Water:
Check out the following video for another demonstration of LHBF by Wai Lun Choi ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryxByDCdC64 ). For info of the various lineages within LHBF, check out ( http://waterspirit6x8.tripod.com/id18.html ).

Good luck in your quest.
