any set up is good only if it is safe setUp.
in other words, safe for you but hard for his counter.
if he can counter, than make sure you know what his counter is going to be.

you know how to do a knee seizing throw right? adjust your rear foot to the more inside angle (from opponent's front foot), and grab his knee with your off hand while pushing into his block with your elbow.

the exact setup I was thinking was cross-step elbow (strike left elbow, right foot front) against someone with left foot forward. then shift your back foot to the inside angle and grab the opponent's left knee with your right hand. continue your push with your left elbow but at the off angle.

Judo is very much like Taiji in strategy. You wait your opponent to do something and then you take advantage on it. SC uses different approach, you force your opponent to do something. There is a big difference here. If you response to what your opponent is doing then you may fall into his trap. If you force your opponent to do something then he may fall into your trap.

The basic principle on this is "you give your opponent 2 choices. He either fight against your or yield with you". For example, if you bite on his leading leg then if he fights against you then you take his leading leg. If he yields by pulling that leg back then you get his other leg.

This is the major difference between CMA and others. CMA always consider own safety first. This is why you don't see any CMA guys shot in without building a bridge first.
