I worked as a bouncer and large event security for several years and used my Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguazhang frequently.

About five years ago, maybe three years into my Chen taiji study I randomly encountered this guy on the street.

After some friendly chat over a cigarette and a bowl of Mary Jane we got to discussing marital arts. Next thing ya know he's excited and showing me katas and forms he learned. Asked me to demo what I do so I went through the CXW 38 I was learning at the time and it's an instant gear shift. What I thought was a friendly after work, "Do you have a smoke?" session for both of us turned into an agreed upon all out kung fu brawl in the Irish bar parking lot. After about 5 minutes he had landed a number of strikes, bent my glasses, ruined my best work shirt so I got tired of it. He tried to get a good whip kick to my kidneys so I used some qinna as a counter to disable him and temporarily seize up his whole leg. Dumped him on the ground immobilized and we both agreed to end it. It was a damned good fight, haven't had one that compares since.

But the true origin is that prior to end of the Qing ??? CMA was a street art used to protect the village, used as carriage escort protection, etc. It is only when the intellectuals began to see it as national treasure, it seems to have lost its effectiveness catering to the higher classes as a way to ensure acceptance into the marketplace. To bring it down a notch, scholars (examination takers, provincial dignitaries, etc hired these street CMA fellows to do the menial work (yes, that was its origin since they used hands and that was considered demeaning to status and even 'getting too dark' (out in the sun!) implyin a low societal status or menial worker.

Yes, Troll.

Before I took my break, I studied and practiced Yang Taiji for about 7 years, Wai Lun Choi's Xingyi for about a year and a half, and about six months of practice with Cheng Bagua, not enough to claim proficiency, but enough to recognize when it's bagua footwork escorting my guest out.

After 7 years not practicing, I have the Taiji solo form and the Wu Xing still in my body enough to practice and consider it study.

I do not currently study Bagua and have no plans to take it up. When I was working security, I was studying it.

Make sense now?

I'm not a "complain to the moderators" kind of guy, but I think calling me "Troll" is a bit excessive. But that's not my problem.

So, six months of bagua, 7 years ago, before the train took your legs or whatever, and you didn't achieve proficiency but used it in your job. Gotcha.

I don't generally talk about my heroism

Up, up, up in the air!
Fifteen hundred?
Fear me, rioters!
One-move finish!
Oh! said the bad guy!
Nice!

Thanks

The topic is not I practice neijia and I am good at free fight

But what is the neijia principal used in free fight and that work

For exemple yichuan efficiency is to hook the arm and then be body on body and then exploding the fali force

Sure, you don't just walk in circles around people.

I found that the stepping methods worked well to enter and maintain control of someone while remaining highly mobile. I can't remember the names of the palms, but the one that is similar to San ti in Xingyiquan (one palm on their shoulder, one on the wrist) is a perfect control and escort hold.

There are some fundamental differences in the stepping methods as I studied them. Bagua has that smooth, continuous, powerful flow of steps.

Well the Taijiquan fuels everything, first of all. Balance, central equilibrium, sensitivity, structure, all comes from there.

Approaching someone to restrain or eject them, it's primarily push hands.

It wasn't so much about unbalancing them as it was about controlling them. Keeping my balance in push hands is about developing good balance in myself more so than learning to unbalance others. It's not really a fighting tactic.

The fighting tactic is complete mastery of your opponent. You use your qi to override their qi and take control of their body.

So that's the primary skill. Connect and control. I've described it here before as getting them stuck on the surface of my bubble. They can't come in, they can't get away. The goal of my Taijiquan is to make them mentally surrender and do what I want.

The Xingyiquan I study is all about crossing a lot of distance quickly, so if I need to close in or enter from a distance I might step in with it and then use some of the "arm wrapping" skills in the "push hands" part of the exchange to bind up their arms and get them to give up sooner. If they manage to throw any punches, the block and counter I'd employ would come straight from the Xingyiquan.

The Baguazhang as I mentioned is good for entering when you've already closed and the main engine for escorting once a hold is established.

I'm focusing solely on the Taijiquan these days. It's the neijin in my practice. The others were more waijin in their expression.

I remember in the scene from the godfather in which Michael and the florist faked out the police at the hospital to protect Don Vito, the florist culd not light his cigarette for the rash of nerves the had taken over his body, Michael in helping to light the mans cigarette noticed his state of total calm. The best way to recognize your neija skills after any true altercation is to notice your level of fatigue, low?, , your rate of breath , calm and steady ?, comfort level at completion, no muscle tension?, I'd say you nailed it. Ready to go some more ;D ;) 8-)

This just popped up on my Facebook feed. It is a real fight. Uses two techniques that are common in 'Neijia' martial arts a wrist lock into a tai otoshi variation. They're both done very well in a life and death situation under real pressure. Will this do?
