True Striker

Postby Wanderingdragon on Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:58 am

Saw the Faber fight last night , and for the first time saw a true striker in gthe ring. No trading punches just hit hard and don't get hit, I think Faber had know idea he could be hit that hard, but it goes to show you , the idea is not to be able to "take a punch" but to not get hit, how the hell do you throw an elbow and not even look at your target, maybe if he'd pointed his eyes in that direction he would have got out of the way, not that he would have escaped his fate. Also showed why you really dont want to go down in a fight in the real world, with no one there to save him he would have died once he went down or at least very serously hurt. Good fight but five rounds not necessary.

It looked like Faber threw the elbow before he found his feet.

Uriah Faber is a great fighter. That hop up after he was taken down was sick.
Sometimes you do stupid shit and get away with and it sometimes you get caught. The moral of the story is not to do stupid shit. The concept was fine but the execution was sloppy. If Uriah would have arched the elbow over and covered his head with the strike - who knows.
Labeling this thread as "True Striker" is kind of insulting.

Yeah you're right ,and I appologize. After watching the clip I realize his opponent was working kind of sloppy too, Uriah was cought by surprise by the opening shots, but true striker is over the top.

Could call it first strike, as it does stand testament to the credo that first strike determines that outcome of most fights, if you get hit and your opponent is on top of his game he can most likely finish you, but if you successfully defend and you are on top of your game your counter can determine the momentum, and establish you superiority.

His stance and movement skills looked really good to me. Very impressed until he threw that terrible elbow and paid for it.
