I think Strange was asking about visualization = 意念?

In Japan, many old ladies are extremely hunched over, almost 90 degrees (like a hunchback).
But I hear that acupuncture can treat it very well (most people do not know, and just suffer) - perhaps proper training can have a effect to fix as well.

My "visualization = 意念" is as simple as to use

- Tsuan to establish arm bridge.
- Chang Tsuan into arm grab, and
- Strike another palm on my opponent's head.

My concentration is more on the pulling than on the striking. The harder that I can pull, the more power that I can strike.

I have done 1000 Pi 4 days in a role now. Today, it took me 1 hour (> 42 minutes, < 1 hour and 20 minutes). When I continue my regular work out, I felt a bit tired after another 1 and 1/2 hours. Today I didn't not complete my regular 2 hours training (doesn't include 1 hour 1000 Pi). I left out another 160 throwing combo that I do daily. Now I know I can do 1000 Pi. Whether or not I want to continue to do it and take time away from my other regular training, I'm still not too sure.

What I'm not too sure about is to decide which of the following training can give me the most "health" benefit?

1. 1000 Pi.
2. 400 hip throws.
3. 200 front kicks.

Sifu Wang, to me 1000 Pi trumps the other two options.

My reasoning is that it works the lungs and torsos in a specific way for health, and contains more twist and untwist which is good for joints, and the tissues that wrap them.

thanks.

In the last 4 days, I do feel different. Every morning I feel I has a lot of energy. I also feel that I am 30 years old again. I just can't believe that I start to talk about "health" in RSF. I used to hate to mix combat and health discussion in one thread. This year I just feel what's the value to be a good wrestler but can't live long enough? My senior SC brother David C. K. Lin's death bother me quite a lot.

Sorry to hear of your loss :(

It is very unusual for you to talk about health but it is good to hear too ;)

I remember doing an intensive Xing Yi retreat once. I trained 10 - 12 hours a day for 3 days. just the 5 elements. The feeling afterwards was one of tiredness in my muscles, however, the feeling inside i can only describe as 'light and fluffy', I had a vibrant feeling inspite of the muscular tiredness. It was a nice feeling and why, once a year i do a the 1000 pi quan a day for some period of time.

I think part of the benefit you feel is from the method 'wringing out' the body like squeezing water from a towel then wetting it again. I always found this a good analogy for how Xing Yi feels when practiced for health.

thanks.

Ok, 80 percent serious 20 percent jokingly, could the hunched over be the effect of too much bowing?........ I don't know anything in depth about Japanese culture, maybe in olden times Japanese women was to keep head "lowered"(not too much look up at the sky)? But of course somewhat malnutrition combined with much labour could be it too.

Well - it is interesting in that you don't really see extremely hunched old people in America, for example, yet in Japan it is fairly common to see. I suspect it is from squatting or bending-over for long periods of time (e.g. doing garden- or house-work), but I'm not sure. The bend is more in the back than the neck - many of these women support themselves when walking outside with a kind of walker-bag-holder thing, because even if you have a body like that, you still get bored and want to go out!

Nice!!
I think Beng is hardest to do. If 貍貓上樹 move added.
With Pi, I found that the movement correspond to opening/ closing of 期門 to 雲門 and 虎口 (魚際、合谷)~
Xingyiquan is so uniquely detail yet on surface it seems so simple and straight forward!

Start from your age 60, if you can do this daily, your chance to have a hunched back should be less. I strongly believe in this.

What reason other than health is there? You want to win a fight bring a gun.

Death close to us has a way of focusing the mind. It's the opponent that's always gonna win in the end, just not today if I have anything to say about it

There are 3 reasons to train CMA.

1. Combat - have the ability to protect yourself and your family members.
2. Fun - You have proved that your CMA skill work in the ring and on the mat.
3. Health - You can live longer than others.

I'm not a spiritual person. So self-cultivation, inner peace, cultural activity, ... can mean nothing to me.

I have done 1000 Pi for 5 days now. I had also done 2000 Beng before. I'm going to try 1000 Pao today.
