I have done the XingYi Beng Chuan non-stop for 1 miles on the beach. IMO, the XingYi Beng Chuan takes less energy than the XingYi Pi Chuan takes.

one day we did each of the 5 elements for 1 hour straight each
so about 5 hours of training

did not count the reps though ...

training one thing over and over again in my experience
is a good way to get rid of the excess tension in your body while doing the move
you reach a point where you are so tired that you can not hold that tension
and you relax and find a more economical way to preform
in other words you can not hold that tension anymore due to fatigue- so you have to let it go to continue...

also once you relax and are moving with connection
the repetition makes you aware of deeper connections that you are using to make the movement (power the movement)
just doing a couple reps you will never be able to feel it unless someone points it out and gives you exercises to train that connection
but just repeating over and over again you can find this for yourself

I did that one time because I did not understand one of the xing yi animals- and how it was utilizing the body
so I just repeated the movement over and over in my apartment until i could feel what it was doing
(a deep transverse connection between the arm and the torso)

i don't think this type of thing is what most people are looking for..
lol

Agree! This is why I like to wrestle for 15 rounds. In the last 5 rounds, I don't have any "brute force" left on my body.

You

- can measure quantity.
- can't measure quality.

You

- can date 100 girls.
- can't say that you have dated the most beautify girl on earth.

Yes repeating over and over is the way to go when on the beginning of the learning curve, the experienced practitioner (should) have the correct relaxation and coordination from step one and focus more on sparring exercises get the relaxed and coordination state deeper

Back when I practiced Karate classes where almost one hour of "warm up" with loads of running push-ups sit-ups and such then some 20 minutes of Kihon(basics(compare with XYQ 5 element) in a fierce pace, after that one was quite exhausted but it was followed with 2 minutes rounds of free sparring each round with a different opponentfor another some 20 minutes. Yes one had to find that relaxed state to go throu it

Hehe, yes for a young man it might be important to tell how many (beautiful) girls he have "dated", hopefully it was quality every time 8-)

One thing my teacher told me
When you feel to tired to train that is when you get the most benifit
I don't know if I have done a thousand in a row but that matters little
It is what you do day to day
Not occasional bursts of energy

If one just do the three firs Bengquan of the element linking form(if those are in ones linking form) after the third Beng step up with a left Beng and so on, doing the threes in a mirroring way. Then one Bengquan as much as one want basically on the spot but still doing the advancing Beng with additionally retreating and staying put beng....But of course taking a "walk" along the beach in the summer is always nice( I even do that during wintertime) 8-)

Not sure if I have done it that much, but I have done Pi Quan and the Single Palm change for 30 minutes straight before. I wish I could have the time for that type of training now though, because of work and family obligations, I have to be smarter about my training.

Some study said that when you walk 8 miles, in the 1st 4 miles, your body starts to detect your problem. In the 2nd 4 miles, your body start to fix your problem. I strongly believe in that.

When I walked on the beach, I tried to repeat the following drills for 1 mile:

1. SC foot sweep,
2. Long fist hay-maker,
3. Taiji brush knee,
4. XingYi Pi Chuan,
5. XingYi Beng chuan,

For the difficulty, I find 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5

I have read the following:

When you train the XingYi Pi Chuan, your arm will go out and then pull back. It's like 1 exhale and 1 inhale. After you have drilled this for 500 meters (assume 1 punch takes 1/2 meter, 500 meters takes about 1000 punches), you breathing will be long, smooth, and deep. Your energy will be built up. You then start to understand the "body breathing". If you have any physical problem, this training can cure that problem. When you get old, your body will be weaker. This training can make your body strong.

I believe to use punch out and pull back as breath out and breath in to coordinate body move with breathing is the main training here.
