Wei Lei (taiji guy) lost again

Discussion on the three big Chinese internals, Yiquan, Bajiquan, Piguazhang and other similar styles.

Wei Lei (taiji guy) lost again

Postby nicklinjm on Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:50 pm

Think most people on this board probably remember the fight last year where Wei Lei (supposedly a long-time Yang style taiji teacher from Sichuan) was KO'ed by Xu Xiaodong in 20 seconds.

The same guy - Wei Lei - has just had another Leitai match, losing again to a middle-aged actor / amateur martial artist called Wang Zhiliang. Wang Zhiliang had previously won a series of Wulinfeng, but he is over 50 years old and a bit overweight - pretty embarassing for Wei Lei I think.

But I mean isn't this Wei Lei guy the one that was rolling watermelons around on the floor to get the insides all loose then slapping the outside and cutting it open to prove he had some kind of penetrating power? I mean to say isn't he a known fraud?

He did okay, The other guy outweighs him by several pounds and has a lot of reach on him. Of course, it's easy to critique their technique from the peanut gallery. But, if he keeps at it, he'll get better.

Didn’t he took up MMA after his first loss?

No, he did not do okay. It was pathetic from both sides any way you look at it. It's unacceptible because he claimed to be a master of Taijiquan when he clearly isn't even worthy of being called a novice practitioner.

I give the guy credit for trying.

If anything is going to save the IMAs, it's going to be demonstrating that they are at least capable of holding their own.

Yes but, is he cheating by training kickboxing? :)

+1

Not sure it needs saving, but talking about it ain't gonna do it.

Imo, most of those who became great at ima were already good at fighting. That or they learned from someone who prepared them for those who could fight.

In practical terms, that means/t losing and getting beaten a lot. The experience is invaluable, and can be the best motivation to improve.

I will give him that, he's at least putting himself out there in the public on film for the world to see him win or lose and that takes some gumption.

I just don't think this guy is who's gonna save the IMAs, if they indeed need saving to begin with. I mean there's always Jake Mace out there reppin the brand.

This guy, and I may be completely incorrect, and if I am, I will apologize and retract my statement, but this guy I'm pretty sure is a legit fraud in that he has straight up knowingly fraudulent demonstrations of his ability, and got into the fight that "Threw The Legitimacy Of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Into Question", by running his mouth off on an internet forum, and since having had his ass handed to him has simply cross-trained in mixed martial arts to prepare for his second loss.

Like I said if I am wrong I'll eat my words willingly. Any respect he's gaining by putting himself out there is leavened by his fraud and loud mouth and well-now-hes-gotta-mend-his-rice-bowl.

Imo, the "taichi" guys who fight and lose or look bad aren't fake. The guys who've never fought and lost and then make claims about their art are fake.

I understand that presenting oneself as a master is always exaggerated. I think people generally assume that a master can't be beaten, especially by someone who isn't claiming to be a master. But, if the guy gets out there to prove that he is a master and loses, so what? Masters can lose. Well, if they ever fight.

Yeah it's definitely the same guy though. He was in a documentary. He doctored a watermelon to make it look like his "internal power" rotted it with a touch, and taped a bird to his hand to keep it from flying away to recreate the classic stunt. Discussed about halfway down this article.

http://www.newschinamag.com/newschina/p ... zine_id=20

This guy is a real deal fake. He knowingly and willingly performs fraudulent demos to give the appearance of skills he does not possess. His problem is he started believing his own bullshit and caught a beating for it.

Here's a thread discussing the documentary series I'm referring to

Wei Lei appears to not have the jibengong (physical conditioning) call it aerobic stamina, etc so he and others like him who lack this will always be at a disadvantage.
All the time, this qi/chi stuff, is a killah but again if the condition of blood is enhanced through the activities we do (as in oxygen carrying capacity of blood) then qi will be of the "same character".

QI follows blood ;D
