Vincent Black passed away last week. My condolences to his students and friends.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Never met the man but know many who knew or trained with him and I only heard good things.

When I spoke with Tom Bisio this weekend I thought he said Vince was 64.

Based off of comments in the thread, I may have misheard the correct age.

I'm sorry to hear that. He certainly trained seriously in MAs and TCM - RIP.

I've always had the utmost respect for Vince after David Devere and I drove from Tempe to Tucson (twice in 1 week) to meet him in person while I was in Az visiting David, almost 25 years ago. He was a warm host and an open book on martial arts. He was kind enough to demonstrate his skills on us ... He lightly tapped the top of my head and I felt it snowball to my guts where suddenly my only thoughts were how to not crap my drawers. That was just 1 of many things he demonstrated. Then he invited us inside for tea where we chatted until late...and we had literally "just showed up" on his doorstep. Shame to lose such a gifted artist at such a young age .

I never met Vince in person
My first knowledge of him was in 1975
Master Hsu gave me a book by John Price and Vince was one of the photos in the book
I find it hard to think he is only 64 for at that time I thought he was older than me

Vince was 68; he would have been 69 this year.

RIP. A common name in the CIMAs since I started in them. Condolences to all who knew him.

interesting, I think I recall hearing a story where a BJJ guy challenged Vince and he did that slap strike to the top of the BJJ guys head when the BJJ guy went in for a take down and Vince knocked the guy out. just hearsay so I don't know if it it totally true or not.

Rest in peace.

One of those names that's been around since I first got into IMA as well, only ever heard him mentioned with great respect and friendship.
