This is a very good test to see if you will start to have the hunchback problem or not.

Yes, I can do this very well. And I'm getting better at it, year for year.

Oh, you mean the other one? Yes, that too. But better on one side than the other, due to slight scoliosis and an old shoulder injury.

When you get older, your body will start to shrink. You need to spend more time to expand your body. Many good exercises can be seen in this clip.

You can swing your arms 60 times daily (for each exercise):

- horizontally.
- vertically front and back.
- vertically side way.
- 45 degree diagonally up and down.

Also to walk in wide and low bow-arrow stance can open your lower body and prevent it from shrinking. The bow-arrow stance part of XingYi Pi Chuan is good for this.

Your thought?

I'm working on correcting the last of my scoliosis - thanks for another way to check equality. I've found with left elbow up it is more difficult. I think I'll start doing this during seated meditation.

WIth the right on top and left on bottom, pretty easy. With the left on top and right on bottom, impossible.

Old shoulder injury on the right, though, not a back issue.

hmm, almost with right arm up, definitely no with left arm up - as long as I can remember, it's been that way.

also, shouldn't this be more of an indicator of your shoulder mobility and not your spine (hunchback issues)?

Agreed. But maybe also overall mobility in this area? I've got a very straight back and good scapula mobility, still can't do it. Left arm down, right on top I can barely connect the fingers. Right arm down and behind the back, not even close. Think it might be more about shoulder mobility, yes.

If you can't do this then you should start jiujitsu, because you won't need to do it yourself - people will be doing it to you! 8-)

If you can't do it already, just start by holding a washcloth and work your way up. Shoulder mobility? Try holding the washcloth with both hands in front, then see if you can move it over your head and end up holding them behind you --without letting go.;)

yes, both sides... I will remember to do this exercise from time to time to make sure my upper back is ok.
