Leg Skill

Postby johnwang on Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:57 pm

I have just include the "leg skill" into my student's black belt testing requirement. I like those solo drill training. It helps my single leg balance big time.

Comments are welcomed.

1. 切(Qie) - Front cut, (1st side - attack outside of opponent's right leg),
2. 刀(Dao) – Knife hook, (2nd side - attack inside of opponent's right leg),
3. 合(He) - Inner hook, (3rd side - attack inside of opponent's left leg),
4. 削(Xiao) – Outer hook, (4th side - attack outside of opponent's left leg),
5. 踢(Ti) - Sweep,
6. 撩(Liao) - Back kick,
7. 彈(Tan) – Leg spring,
8. 挑(Tiao) – Leg lift,
9. 撮(Cuo) - Scooping kick,
10. 纏(Chan) - Leg twist,

I like leg skills - it's a bit of a shame that terminology is maybe different per school, so I can only guess what each one of these are.

Do you practice combinations of these, too? Those can be fun as well!

Most of the leg skills are finish moves. Some leg skills can be used for door opening moves (set up).

- Leg spring, single leg,
- leg spring, shin bite,
- leg spring, double legs,
- leg spring, foot sweep,
- leg spring, downward shoulder pulling,
- leg spring, body spinning,
- ...

Leg spring, body spinning:

Great video! But which part is the 彈 (Tan) – leg spring part?

Is it the initial half-step from the front leg to move closer?

You use your right leg to spring your opponent's left leg to change his stance from horse stance into bow-arrow stance.

Ah - that part! Very interesting, I never learned anything like that...

It is hard to tell (for me) - but do you use the right leg to "knock" the opponent's leg from the side?

The leg spring is to make your opponent's stance to be wider. You spring from the inside of your opponent's leg.

Great video, thanks! (I love your sausage-dog, too!)

I wonder if it is possible to do it facing forward - to just kick out leg forward, and "spring" the opponent's back leg outward. I once did something like that in bagua, but not much force - it would be a great setup to a throw/trip to add the force!

You can spring your opponent's leg when you face him too. You can use stealing step and spring your right leg side way with the right side of your right foot edge to touch the inside of your opponent's left foot (your toes pointing toward his heel).
