And they are nice bikes. The SJW crowd just got another scalp. That said, the controversy might be good for publicity like you said. But as expensive as those things are I'm just not sure what the market is.

The defenders of liberty need to put their money where their minds are and shell out $2500 for a peleton bike, or the SJWs win.

An immediate change in stock market value is a false indicator.
Elon Musk for example - media loves to herald Tesla drop in value
over some new intro or a fail and then - big surprise - in 3 months a big gain results.

That was pretty much my point. Some folks threw a twitter/Instagram/whatever hissy fit and it resulted in a short term hit to the stock price. Is this a benefit long term due to all of the publicity generated? I honestly don't know.

Where it applies here, in the context of our earlier discussion, is that controversy can be used to generate business that can then fund someone's practice. While people may look askance at that, keep in mind that businesses need to breakout somehow. These guys who keep getting destroyed on YouTube by the MMA crowd are basically looking to do that. They just aren't being smart about it. And they are frequently delusional.

Any time you want to McDojo Adam, I'm good with it Graham.

But I think he is a good case in point. His business acumen is sharp. He's also smart enough to never try to fight anyone who could hurt him either.

I don't recall anybody throwing a "hissy fit", just a bunch of mockery and derision for a shitty advertisement. It got memed, It reverberated.

Now for hissy fits, you've got the "One Million Moms" getting ads pulled from the Hallmark channel because they *gasp* showed two women kissing.

Regarding the original post, I also feel that all the "Chinese McDojo beatdowns" that have been publicized in recent years are actually a blessing in disguise -- stimuli which trigger evolutionary changes in TCMA that, in the long run, are beneficial to the arts' survival in our current era.

That's my take as well.

I would really like to see someone with a traditional style base go into the Octagon and do well. They don't need to take the championship. Just do well.

And I strongly suspect that the McDojo phenomena is not something new. I think even back in the day there was a lot of BS going on. The whole need to preserve face in a lot of these societies seems to encourage this kind of thing on a fundamental level.
