At the time of Ming dynasty, Shaolin lost it’s martial arts skills.
So 俞大猷 passed down his Staff/sword skills and meditation tech to Shaolin monks.

予昔聞河南少林寺有神傳擊劍之技,後自雲中回取道至寺。僧自負精其技者千餘人,咸出見呈之。視其技,已失古人真訣。明告眾僧,皆曰:「願受指教。」予曰:「此必積之歲月而後得也。」眾人推少年有勇力者二人,一名宗擎,一名普從。隨予南行,出入營陣之中。時授以陰陽變化真訣,復教以知慧覺照之戒。及三餘載,二人曰:「噫!有餘矣。乞歸以所受之教,轉授寺眾,以永其傳,可也?」遂許辭去。倏而又十三載矣。門者忽報有一僧求見,與之進,乃宗擎也。謂普從已化為異物,惟宗擎回寺,以”劍訣禪戒”傳之眾僧,所得最深者近百人,其傳可永也。

If anything the Xinyi staff and Yu Chuan sword form in LHBF school are the real gem. But like any classic manual, it needs to be deciphered~ 此必積之歲月而後得也~
