Episode 2 of the Tai Chi Notebook podcast is out!

https://anchor.fm/graham47/episodes/Ep-2-Byron-Jacobs-on-Beijing-martial-arts-e15oo6n

Byron Jacobs is a teacher of Xing Yi and Bagua based in Beijing, China. He’s a student of the famous Shifu Di Guoyong and is heavily involved in the martial arts scene in Beijing. As well as training traditional martial arts he’s also a BJJ practitioner and competitor.

If you’d like to be taught by Byron in the arts of Xing Yi and Bagua, then he has an online learning platform available at https://www.patreon.com/mushinmartialculture - find out what’s available on the platform here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRjNAhP91nI&t=1s

In this wide ranging discussion we talk about training Xing Yi, Bagua and Tai Chi and whether Wu Shu will ever get into the Olympics. We also find out what it was like to train martial arts in Beijing during the Corona virus pandemic, and what the Chinese BJJ and MMA scene is like.

Towards the end there's a technical discussion of Tai Chi stepping methods between Yang and Sun styles that you may enjoy.

Yangjia Michuan taijiquan from Zhang Qilin (learned from Yang Jianhou but had to be listed as a Yang chengfu disciple) has a follow-up step like Sun Taijiquan.

His disciple Wang Yien-Nian:

do you have a video of the style you do Graham?

Beijing is for losers when it comes to Chinese martial arts. It is only full of pomp and arrogance and people handing each other BS titles and duan' without ever busting heads. The center of functional Chinese martial arts is not even happening there. And there is no need to put on Japanese Gi''s and dry hump each other. U.K., USA, and some places in Europe have some real Chinese martial arts schools and fight events with people really using it like Lei tai. Taiwan as well. Beijing people are snobs IME. Nothing going on there worth going. Youd probably get more martial out of a Adam Mizner seminar. LOL

Great quote.

At least a couple of members of the board who fought in Baltimore have met in person over beers. Have you?
