When your opponent throws a hook punch at you, his body is rotating. You can borrow his rotating force, rotate with him, and

- Wrap your opponent's hook punching arm.
- Use stealing step to spin your body.
- Apply head lock (or under hook) with leg block to take him down.

Honestly, that move being banned in boxing is the only thing stopping me from taking on Tyson.

That and you can't use elbows either!

I think there is some universe somewhere where I turn my back on a punch being thrown at me, but it's not this one.

That's probably the universe where the puncher leads with their chin, followed by their chest, and the shoulder and arm whipping around like a wet noodle.

if you allow him to come within range and do what he does, it is nearly impossible to defend.
key words being "you allow him"

and maybe also, the question in the beginning already set yourself up to fail....
cause leading word concept is defend.
underlying meaning is that you allow him to start the combo, THEN you defend.
i do not think this is correct. the opponent must not be allowed to start the combo

however. if you think you are as highly skilled as I am...
Pi Quan. albeit a modified one, with left lower guard hard moved to lower outer sector to check the body/kidney shot
at the inner elbow; simultaneously right hand pi to the face neck.
If he is very strong and does not move; follow up with a head butt pi to your OWN HAND that is still in contact with the opponent
(key point being your rear leg push out the front leg, so perhaps you will be in gong bu)

if you think this is not possible, i would not blame you
the ZZ level you would need is :-
with your legs in front and rear position; you must have real balance and strength in the left and right axis...
to counter the initial force of the body shot
not so easy...but remember you are the one who let him come in

Ok, so I can't use any kind of kungfu development or sensitivity training. Oh, I still have my tai chi sword. Ok, I'd use my sword.

Or did you mean in a boxing ring with gloves on and from the clench?

1st. of all, if you`re not close to heavy weight - don`t even try the "best move" of yours, :)
Try to "talk out", make friends, go to the beer, etc.
and I`m speakin` from my own experience...
When I was "tournament fighter" and been thinkin`, that I`m quite good; you know - black belt and all that jazz, I suddenly found myself in "almost serious" encounter with well trained heavy weight, (I`m close to 1/2 of this size).
Shortly - I`ve been grounded in matter of milliseconds...
..."What do you see?
- darknesssssssssssss..."

If there is, somewhere in our universe, fighter which is able to absorb and redirect Mike`s punch (like cat the ball - from gif posted couple threads ago), tell me please, I love study with him.
Considering, that you have no choice, my shot is:
Switching the tactics is the only option;
Dodging, avoiding contact ( unless you can do full naked choke) and lo kicks as long as you able to .

IMO, trying to engage a prime Tyson at striking range is simply suicidal. The way he moves and throws those hooks and uppercuts will blow right through any blocks you try to put up at upper and middle gates.

So if I had to face someone like him, I'd attack his knees, shins, and insteps with kicks as he tries to move in, and go for takedowns if he gets close enough.

All theories, of course. In real life, I don't think I'd last more than 15 seconds in the ring. ;)

One doesn't chase the ball/punch. They let the ball bounce off of them and punch the person (center) who threw it—while their arms are outstretched. But, it's not guaranteed to work.

hmm,
@marvin8 , didn`t get it, you posted cat again...
but
diggin` cat demo : key point - kitty weight + mass and velocity of the ball .
It coudn`t be compared to human bouncing a ball by DT move (speculating `cause didn`t saw the demo wchih you reffering to).
Cat demo is much more closer in pure physical sense - punch counter -done by :
-absorbing
-redirecting
-adding power
-throwing
excellent example hi level grappling tech. :)
speed of the ball wasn`t very high, but weight close to the kitty... -bow-

I am referring to your statement, "fighter which is able to absorb and redirect Mike`s punch (like cat the ball" and cat gif [you would be surprised if there was one].

The "ball" is the punch/hand, not the body. If the opponent is chain punching, it is easier and more effective to attack the body/center, rather than chase the punches themselves.

No
ball = 750 kg/cm2 punch (like good heavy weight)
or
differently :
if ball has a 1/2 cats weight it = 40 kilos throwing on me with, let`s say 30km/h speed...

and don`t think, that Xing I is good answer in such case,
let be force be with you, when you will attack Mice`s center in time his attack.

I have trouble understanding your English. Correct me, if I misunderstood. To paraphrase, you said you don't know any fighter in the universe "which is able to absorb and redirect Mike`s punch (like cat the ball [analogy?] - from gif posted couple threads ago)."

I took the OP question as, Tyson is close and already throwing his hook and uppercut combinations. But, that may be wrong.

So, how do you propose to "defend against and counter Tyson's hook and uppercut combinations?" That is not clear to me.
