Our nei kung practice, including ongoing group classes in studio begins with 20 minutes of horse stance, followed by 9 other exercises. The standing is a way to "cook the rice" as most are familiar with. It is important in this set to hold horse first and not skip it. The rest are moving exercises for the most part, but we also hold playing pipa on both sides. We feel that tai chi without nei kung is "empty", especially before you get good enough at tai chi that it can be like a nei kung. Nei kung helps the tai chi along as a bit of a short cut, but it is also "eating the bitter", especially at first. Our tai chi form is to some extent based on the idea of a moving horse stance. It is very foundational for us.
