I was lucky enough to sit down with Alex Dong, the current lineage holder of Dong (Tung) family Tai Chi thanks to an intro via my Sifu (GM Sam FS Chin). I enjoyed talking with Alex quite a bit and found his perspective both refreshing, and enlightening. Hope you guys enjoy!

That is part of one of them, yes.

There are some similarities in some places. They are all 100% about Taijiquan though, where the 8 brocades are general longevity, etc.

Can you explain what you mean that they are "100% Taijiquan"?

I can see what they're doing, and they look like 100% qigong to me.

I did not say that they are "100% Taijiquan" they are "100% ABOUT Taijiquan".

They specifically target the body conditioning required for proper Taijiquan vs being generally applicable for health. The health benefits you might derive from them are ancillary to their effectiveness in improving your Taijiquan.

There is instruction to go along with the movement that I'm not going to share, you can buy the course from his website if you are curious. I found that particular 8 or so minute routine to be very difficult to complete at first but it has done wonders for improving my shoulders - opening and "sitting" the joints properly. The others, likewise, can be challenging, but focus on other areas.

He dosent do tai chi very well so there might be better ones out there
