Well, if YCF couldn't have known when his grandfather died, then it's possible his father (or some other family member) told him that story. I was alive when my grandfather died, so I know the date. My son doesn't. If I told him that he met my grandmother, he'd believe it.

Otoh, worst case, he made up the story to ... what, exactly? He was already the public face of Yang style. I'm not sure his anecdote gave him more credibility, but that's the worst reason I can think of. If that's the worst thing I can say about him, meh, especially if that's his worst lie.

That's the point, really, why lie about it? Just to build the family brand and associate YLC's ideology with the popular sentiment at the time? This was 1933, so in historical context, it's sales patter just like all the introductions.

The point isn't to discredit them entirely, it's just to say that we have to take what they say with a little grain of salt because they've demonstrated they're not above just making stuff up to make the sale.

I figured it's worth bringing up to people that value the TRUTH.
