Frankenstein zhanzhuang

Postby Dubster on Sun May 03, 2009 11:44 am

Hey All,

I am planning to start my standing practice again and read Ian's recent thread where he said:

Ian wrote:
do you have a zhanzhuang teacher, by the way?

No. The zhan zhuang I do is a bit of a frankenstein. I do Egoscue stuff to warm up, and the actual standing uses the arm posture I learned from chen style, plus the structure and breathing patterns I learned from systema.

No one seemed to pick up on this. My standing would be pretty similar with bits of systema, taiji and yoga all rolled into it - as my focus would primarily be for health anyone see any drawbacks with that or have any other comments/ thoughts?

TIA

In the book it didn't end well for Prof. Frankenstein.

Meaning that because Ian chooses to pick things he believes work and play with them together, it will end up wrong somehow?

Is he much better off just taking for granted what one teacher says to him, and do that without comparing, researching and weighting that one thing against all others, like a robot parrot...like you do? STFU.

Jesus man, you inferred a lot from a simple litterary reference. Have you got daddy issues or something?

Just STFU. You always sneak in a snide remark disguised as bad english humor and ALWAYS back out of it. Just like when you mentioned your teacher's health vs Daniel's teachers.

It gets old.

Back to topic..im out of the thread.

Zhanzhuang, like all Kung Fu is designed to follow all natural body structure and alignment, so not matter how you mix and match if you don't have the laws of nature, ie posture and gravity, working with you, you will never find the comfort to gain anything from your practice. Nothing to do with one mans word or another, everything to do with what your body tells you.

I really like this pakua/zhang zhuang-like drill George Wood a Gao stylist here in the DC metro area taught once. Basically holding your arms in the 'bent seeking the striaght" pakua arms and walking extremely slow maintaining proper structure in body. He describes it as if walking like a really slow Frankenstein. I mean walk with each step is like a 10 count process so your really working structure and root very very slowly and exact.

good stuff!.
