Since the beginning of the article says, "by Wu Dianke and Cheng Suren", I'd assume it's from Wu's book that Cheng helped to edit. I believe several members of the board have a copy - "The Complete Art of Xingyiquan" (形意拳術大全). I'll have to check my copy to see if this is in the "history" section at the beginning of the book. If you'll recall, Jarek has criticized the history presented in that book in the past.

Lineage (if any cares) is:

Li Laonong -> Che Yizhai -> Liu Jian -> Wu Dianke -> Cheng Suren

What I want to know is who did the translation?

The one that went in first, or the one that came out first?

hi Alvin--

Jon didn't say who did the translation to English in his post, but I'll hazard a guess--Stephen Yan, Wu taiji and Xinyi Liuhe Quan teacher in New Zealand.

Jon?

Quite wrong there, it was done if I remember correctly by Joseph Crandall (someone else sent it to me), so I decided to just put it up, since we were discussing things kind of related.

Hmm. Doesn't seem to be in that book. I seem to recall that Cheng Suren also wrote a novel (i.e. fiction) titled "Grandmaster of Xingyi" or something like that (I've never actually seen a copy). Maybe it's from that? Or it could just be a fluff piece they wrote for Wulin or Wudang magazine. I seem to recall a fictionalized serial about Dong Haichuan running in Wudang magazine last year or so...

I have the book, but it seems that the story is not there, as posted above.

And how about this business of Dai Long Bang being the founder of Hebei Xingyi? Timeline doesnt seem to make this likely. Guess this doesnt matter either. Just a lot of inaccuracies in this article. Probably the result of translation. But hey all I care about in training is preserving my health, having fun, and denting the skulls of bad people when i dont have a weapon. Cheers.
