As a side note -- a friend told me that the 'paper and pencil in ten seconds' thing was one of the tests for fighter pilots (just once though, not every morning.)
It's a cool little test. Don't remember the numbers though, i.e. how many dots was the "passing grade"...

Ashe,

Dude you ain't kiddin' the summer this year did not start gradually. Its like I woke up one morning & it was 110 F. It has not let up at all - not even for a day.
Some bright news - the lightining show last night suggests that Monsoon is on its way. At least we may get afternoon breaks.

Training (even indoors) in the heat can be really taxing. My best training has been to train very early (0530) because even in the evening the heat still lingers.

How does the BCCA & creatine help you? My habits lean more toward eating light, eating cold foods (salads, sushi, etc...), getting in the water & avoid the direct sun. Of course, staying well, hydrated helps too.

Enjoy the oven

the BCAA's should help maximize recovery and the creatine should help maximize hydration.

try it first without sound.
then try with your eyes closed (the sheep make a little sound when they run)

I have been thinking about this test quite a lot, since I keep scoring bad, and wondering if this is the same reaction time as what happens when someone throws a punch at you, and your body reacts.
Today I was driving, and suddenly the guy in front breaks fast. I havent slept much as I have just gotten a beautiful daughter (most parents know what I mean I guess), so I actually didnt realise what was going on until some seconds after when my body automatically had braked and swung to the side avoiding the car.
It was a completely non conscious process, driven by reflexes and quite some years of driving.
This seems much closer to the reflex process that happens when your body has ingrained a movement to detail, responding with whatever technique that comes up, but faster than you can think of.
Any ideas on the difference on these two kinds of reactions?
It seems obvious that the sheep-exercise thing is more consciously controlled ( your eyes see, your brain register and tells the finger to push), whereas the bodymemory (your eyes see & body feel and body moves, then brain thinks "wow, that was a nice move!")) is more unconscious.
Both things CNS?

the third test i believe flashes a larger dot at the very last and the instructions specifically state that this score is often your fastest because it taps into your "startle" reflex.

for me, the difference is not significant. somewhere in the neighborhood of 6/100ths of a second. if it were in the neighborhood of half my "standard time" i would consider that to be significant.
