NYC Teachers

So I'm looking to start training in the internal arts, and I'm looking for a recommendation for teachers. I have a primary interest in bagua, but would love to learn xingyi and taiji also. I'd appreciate any information that anyone can give me, as I'd like to have some information prior to chasing down teachers.

Thanks!

I've heard lots of good things about David Bond Chan.
Our very own Blacktaoist also seems to know what he's doing.
I don't live in NYC though, so any advice I give you may be a moot point for some reason.

deviatingtao,

I highly recommend James Montalbano's Shing-Yi school in Manhattan. James was a long-time student of Kenny Gong. Please call 646-942-6019 for the location of the school and the class times.

Have a good evening!

If you live in NYC, you are in luck! You actually have several places to choose from to learn IMA :P

Baguazhang:

Tom Bisio (predominantly Liang style): http://www.tombisio.com/
Novell Bell (predominantly Yin style (Cao substyle)): http://www.blacktaoist.com
Frank Allen (predominantly Cheng style via Bruce Kumar Frantzis, Liu Jingru, etc.): http://www.wutangpca.com

There are others, too, but the above seem to have baguazhang as their "main" art.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll definitely check them all out, though this raises a question: Does it make more sense to find a teacher who focuses on one of the internal arts, or find one who can teaches more than one? Opinions please.

Oh, and I can't seem to find any current contact info for David Bond Chan, as he's been recommended, I'd like to check him out, would anyone know if he's still teaching/accepting new students, and if yes, how I might get in touch with him?

Thank you!

I would recommend Li Tai-Liang in Long Island.
He may have some students teaching in the city as well.

You can find out more information from Mark Li.

The website is here :

I'm afraid Long Island is out of my range at the moment, but thanks for the suggestion.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the suggestions, and I'm going to try to get in touch with/try out all the teachers suggested. And if there's anyone else I should check out, please let me know!

I'd also appreciate if someone could provide the contact info for David Bond Chan, as he's the only teacher suggested so far that I can't find up to date info for. So if you can, please help.

And once again, thanks to you all!
