The Return of Iron Buddha Kung Fu

Postby kenneth fish on Thu Jan 18, 2018 2:25 pm

Iron Buddha Kung Fu will return in the Fall of 2018. Foundation Shaolin (Lohan system) and whole body strength training will be the focus. Xingyi and Tongbei instruction will begin in the late Winter/early Spring 2019. We are currently actively looking for a suitable space in Rockville, Maryland.

We will have a novel approach to tuition - the more frequently a student shows up, and the harder they train and practice, the lower the tuition.

Keep watching this space for more details.

I like the tuition structure. Lets prospective students know where you priorities lie.

Peacedog: I am still looking at the end of September. I will post an update mid-summer.

On the tuition structure, how will you account for natural talent? Some students work their tails off and still have difficulty getting it, whereas others don't have to work at all to pick things up?

Ron: Natural talent is great, but only takes one so far. It's not my first time teaching. Students still need to show up and work (see above - tuition is based on attendance and how hard they work). If they are naturally talented they may well progress faster in some areas - but talent without applying effort does not generally show good results.

Is this both a black iron gym and a martial arts school?

Will you be providing instruction in the Olympic lifts as well?

I do mostly older, "strong man" lifting . This is similar to Olympic lifting, but without the ballistic movements or dropping of weights (the ability to return the weight to the floor builds control and usually incorporates an eccentric contraction). In this regard I also teach sledge hammer exercises, Indian clubs, Meel, kettlebells (old style, not the Russian style that is currently popular), and stone lifts. So yes, both are a part of the program.
