Hi

Living in SE London/North Kent and looking for a teacher. Happy to travel a bit.

I have done a little taiji, xingyi in the past. Not looking for a particular style just a good teacher that teaches the martial aspects of the art.

Any advice would be great

Hi

I teach private lessons in Orpington. It's a mix of Yi Quan, southern mantis and close quarter combat if you are interested.

Thanks

Gary Wragg's Wu style club in Bethnall Green has been around over 30 years, and is well regarded. They teach a full curriculum, including the martial applications from within the form, and how to apply them during push hands, sparring, and mat work involving throws, sweeps, etc.

There is another one in Archway that has been around for about 20 years, and would teach much of the same thing.

Finally, there is a place in Brixton, I think.

Not from the UK, so I don't know which club would be most convenient, or what vibe suits you personally. They would have similarities in what they teach(form should be identical), but each might have it's own flavor. I think that all came out of Gary Wragg's club, originally, but they would also have ties back to Wu Kwan Yu(Ediie Wu) in Toronto and HK.

I would strongly recommend checking out Darren Rose, Alex Kozma's senior student in London: https://yangshengacademy.co.uk/song-xingyi-quan-london/. He teaches both Alex's taiji (from Chen Yuen-san) and Song style xingyiquan in Finsbury Park and a couple of other locations. Not only a formidable martial artist but a v approachable, open guy as well.
