Having touched hands with the man, I certainly second your assessment, FWIW.
In addition to great skill, he is also the nicest guy and a great caring teacher who loves his art and enjoys helping people learn it.

So has anyone met with Gregory Fong? I've heard scant little about the man, like ever.

I recently moved to the Portland area but am so far outside the city that I haven't gotten around to checking out his school yet... or any for that matter. I'd have to drive like 80 miles round trip and I'm already doing that for work, which hasn't gotten completely settled and totally steady yet. Which sucks, because I'm looking to get some corrections on bad habits I may have fallen into because I haven't been able to take a trip to see my long distance teacher in a couple years already.

Thanks, Greg. I've read some stuff at his website, and he seems to be a thoughtful, sincere martial artist who has worked with many good teachers.

And Greg, you should definitely move to Portland. That's because I want to move there someday and I want to learn Wu! The wine there is amazing...

For some reason I feel like this is the thread to post all things Portland related. Anyways. has anyone else in PDX noticed on the back page of the Willamette Week there's a small ad that goes like this:

TaiChi
Tai Chi, Chi-kung, Ba-gua, Yiquan. Free classes w/new sign-ups. 503-740-2666

Anyone know who that is? Seems a little weird to me what with no other information but a phone number and no names.

You would miss out if you did not consider training in Yin Fu< GBT< GBZ<MJG baguaquan.
I am in Portland often, I live in Bend and I train with people in this interesting line of Baguauqan.

Yeah, I think that's the NW fighting arts school in SE. I wouldn't.

The problem with this school is that they don't give accurate information about their lineage. The instructor states that he studied with "Wu Tai-chein, 1905-1985" who is supposed to be a son of Wu Jianquan and younger brother to Wu Gongyi and Wu Gongzao. I've been researching the history of the art meticulously for many years now and I have never come across this third son. I suppose he means Jianquan's grandson Wu Daxin (吳大新) who lived 1933-2005. http://www.wustyle.com/en/db/person.php?cid=9998

Maybe lineage doesn't mean anything to you, but if he invents a person who never existed or he doesn't even know that his teacher died 20 years later, there's something seriously wrong. He should clarify this, before you even consider studying there.

Oops! Spoke too soon.

Oh well, I'm sure the method of training is going to be different anyway.

Just out of curiosity what is it you'd like to learn from the Wu?

That Wu school is in Bend about 170 miles from Portland!!!

That is North Bend Oregon not Bend Oregon, I think it is two different places, my good friend.
At least there is no one like this here. You know me, I would have already caused some kind of trouble with them if they where in my area. : )

See ya soon. How is Brutoleus Maximus ? Willow thought he was the coolest!!!
