Dug Corpolongo Phoenix, AZ Push Hands Seminar March 11, 2023

Hey guys! I've been learning Yiquan from Taste of Death and did some private training with Ray Carbullido. It's been a joy to exchange Xingyi and Bagua practice methods to compare and contrast methods with Nick. I first met my lineage uncle Dug back in November of last year and found him to be incredibly skilled and very kind. Dug Corpolongo is a senior student of Henry Look's and he will be in town this weekend for a push hands seminar Saturday morning from 9am in North Phoenix. Our local practice group is largely senior citizens that practice the Beijing 24 and Zheng Manqing 37 forms at the park and senior centers. That said, Dug does demonstrate martial aspects with the younger participants. Event links are below, cost is $30, please register at On Path Healing Arts.

We had a great seminar with my lineage uncle Dug Corpolongo. We did Taiji push hands exercises that integrated Bagua square walking footwork and Yiquan posting. We worked with a ball and a heavy bag in small circles and various moving patterns with the bag before learning about half of the square walking as a drill to switch arms from Yiquan posting. Maintaining Taiji intent was the goal - I found it challenging to not deform the small ball while keeping it in contact with my arm and the heavy bag. After some heavy bag and footwork drills we worked with partners using Yiquan post transitions and small stance shifts to counter Taijiquan pushes. It was a super productive seminar for me and the next day Dug took a few of us through Henry Look's Guang Ping 32 Short Form.

Here is the video of the Guang Ping Yang Short Form we partially learned that weekend. It's a little different from the short form demo'd by YC Chiang's students. I think we were taught to do this a little differently due to the limitations of the training space. The form mechanics are small frame but the actual form takes a lot of space to perform so we had to do 180s more than is shown here.
