Qi Gong and Tai Chi (Non-concentric Breathing Exercise)

The aim is to provide the basic postures and movements to enhance mind and body without additional stress on heart rate and metabolism by utilizing eccentric strength and muscle elasticity without brute force or concentric muscle contraction.


1. Sitting passively, pelvis and lumbar in alignment and sub-occipital stretching
2. Diaphragmatic breathing in 5 steps’ cycle: active exhale, passive inhale, transition, active inhale, passive exhale
3. Awareness and self-generation of flow without ideation
4. Simple movements of the limbs and torso to generate impact on the spine in gliding, bending, rotating, and circumduction
5. Passive stances including hamstrings and quadriceps stretches, and the transfer of body weight
6. Static postures of embracing
7. Seated arm movements: ascent, descent, open, close, internal arm rotation, external arm rotation, lifting, compressing
8. Coordination of stances and arm movements
9. Combination sets
10. Active and passive stepping
11. Stepping techniques developed from Tai Chi and other non-concentric martial arts
12. Generation of impacts on the 12 regular meridians and relevant organs

This is a progressive learning programme, and participants are expected to utilize their learned skills progressively to improve the quality of their daily activities.
