That's David Chan. He trained Liuhebafa and Yiquan extensively as well as Yang Taijiquan. Chan's Liuhebafa comes from Lau Sam Mok and Yin Tien Hsung. Chan's Yiquan comes from a student of Yu Pengxi. One of the reasons I sought out Henry Look's students was because of this - it was probably the closest I could get to the Yu Pengxi material on the West Coast. I still don't know it well enough to comment.

Pretty sure David Chan has been discussed on this board before, he was one of the best students coming out from the HK school of Chan Yik-yan (Chen Yiren), and as greytowhite pointed out also studied the Southern Yiquan coming from You Pengxi through Liang Zipeng. I've studied a bit of this Yiquan as well, it is great material, would like to get deeper into it.

Yes he's familiar to me. Didn't he pass last year? This is probably the best video I've seen of him.

David Chan? That was more than ten years ago. The free application stuff was filmed in 2010. He was already very sick by then and he passed not a very long time after that. Rodrigues, the “dummy” in the vid, who also published the video was an EF/RSF member, shared some things here and said that the power late Mr Chan shows in the vid did not make justice to his real skill.

In the first link posted it's JR Rodriguez doing the striking to the pads on the backs of his trainees. In the video with David Chan I believe that is Tristan Abara - one of JR Rodriguez's martial brothers.

People here seem to think learning the right standing will give you the ability shown
The best person I have seen with this sort of ability had done very little standing and no I chuan
As I have said this sort of ability is passed on literally from hand to hand
If your teacher dosent have it you won’t get it

That's literally it though. Stand for a bit and get a certificate. Boom. Superman.

If your teacher dosent have it you won’t get it

It is almost for sure.
Even if your teacher has it, and trained you on it, you may still not get it..... it is so hard and frustrating.

My teacher works on the partner exercises when we are together - we practice the standing individually. Sometimes I get it but it's when I am out of the way. When I am consciously trying it's difficult. When I am focused outside of myself and as if the partner is non-existent it's effortless. Such a not fun process to learn but very rewarding when later on it manifests while teaching and my student gets insight to what they are trying to do.
