A little over-extended and blocky/choppish for me.

I wonder where this gentleman learned his Xinyi

This is "master" Bakari.
I think he learned from Nganga Tooloo something or other.
I won't say anything else about this man's xingyi :P

No such thing as good xingyi or bad xingyi anymore, just personal expressions. ;)

You know, its so funny, I do something like post a piece of classical theory in a thread, and then everyone jumps down my throat.
There are two possible reasons for that as far as I see

1: They haven't looked at the classical theory
2: They want to defend their heroes

I wish people would discuss the theory instead of just attacking me.
If you think that the theory means something different than what I say, then you should actually talk about it, since I'm defenitely not an expert in theory and like to share insights with other people.
What I have said already in other threads is that its not my fault that the old masters wrote what they wrote. They are the arbiter of xingyi, period.

As far as Bakari goes, I'm still not going to comment since practical conversation about what makes xingyi good or bad does not seem to be accepted by many members of the board. :P

That's not true, my xingyi is my xingyi, it is therefore real xingyi... because I said so... :P

Mix, look at CJ Wang's comment. He offers a very specific comment on what he sees. This is what folks here see as a practical conversation. I think the interest in board members sways more towards discussing specifics than theory.

FWIW

Xingyi theory is the specifics.
Xingyi is entirely based on theory.
Without theory you can't have specifics.
I was going to write more specifically about bakari's practice, but since it is about theory and why the technique is or is not right according to classical writings of xingyi, it will fall on deaf ears. ::)

Given the way things have gone lately, it sounds like a good idea for you to take a 4th amendament on your opinions regarding this man's Xinyi. ;D ;)

Anybody else have some Xing Yi "combat" training techniques? Remember if it doesn't work Felipe will give you a bloody nose. ;D

All kidding aside... post a vid clip of yourself and not of your teacher or someone else you found on youtube.

I am not sure I see a whole lot of value in some of the exercises they are doing. Like the one where they use both hands to block the arm and then strike the shoulder, it starts at 1:00.

They do seem too extended to me as well. In my xingyi form if I do something more than about 3/4 extension I feel like I am losing power, same for taiji. In my shaolin more techniques are fully extended (which is just before the elbow locks). The movement they are doing at :24 looks much too extended to me if it is supposed to be a strike (it may just be an exercise to strength the back and shoulders for all I know though).
