Bruce Kumar Frantzis interview pt.1

Postby JonathanArthur on Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:20 pm

An interview with B K Frantzis from the late eighties. I'm sure this has been in the public domain for sometime; if it has been posted in the past please ignore.

For myself, Frantzis' writings were quite influential on my early direction when deciding to study IMA.

Regards,

it's the same smarmy little interviewer who was interviewing the fake david lin in btdt!

BKF reminds me of heihachi from the tekken series.

nice to hear the guy talk.

I liked his comment in the first clip where he said that a lot of the bad Tai Chi out there today would not qualify as either "internal" or "martial art".

Sometimes, - when he goes without a haircut for a while his hair will form these kind of curly DEVIL HORNS, ...

... kind of like the cartoon characters in Mad Magazine! ;D

I like the way he points out that hard taiji, taiji as a martial art, requires different training.

Not sure why he says the Wu is slow though, it has fast stuff too. But...whatever.

I think Mike's referring to the fact that in his later martial art years when Kumar would "play" martial arts he didn't do the kickboxing thing of trading a few shots stepping back and starting again, he'd basically have you on the floor or in pain or finish you after one move or two or three if you were lucky.

Although I do have some footage of when he was young and skinny sparring with Xingyi which is pretty cool, the older he got the less he focussed on fighting. So you don't see as much of that now, which is unfortunate but that's the direction he chose to go in.
