This is the same old "you punch at me and I'll react to it" that leads to great visulas but has nothing to do with fighting, let alone working applications against an unwilling opponent.

Bagua can be staccato as long as the "phrase" (intention) and the stepping or weight shifting is continuous.

While I see your point, I can categoricaly state that this is not the case with Chris Ray. This is pretty evident in the clip above with head throws/takedowns to dropping elbow strikes, or sweeps/throws should do the trick.

Only if that is all you practice. However there is more to Chris's practice.
