Wow, thank you SPJ! Ma Hong teaches in an extremely detailed way, there's a lot to learn from those videos (and they only cover two postures out of 83!). Every little part is broken down and Ma Hong explains the the jins used, which is very useful. That being said, I think many of those applications would be hard to pull off outside of the push hands format. It's still very nice to see the original intent behind the movements. Great find!

I've had the luck to know Ma Hong, study with his best disciple for a while and seldom get corrections froms him. His knowledge of taiji principles and nei gong is truly amazing, he has an awful lot to teach and is quite a nice person as well. Unfortunately he has never been a fighter so although he has a high level of nei gong his applications are kind of unrealistic at times and he does lack first hand experience in the fighting process. That of course doesn't mean he's not a good taiji practicioner but I do believe that applications he shows require further thinking and development on the student's side

It's true Ma Hong isn't a fighter but his Master CZK certainly was

Being old school Ma Hong sometimes shows one thing openly to everyone
& another to more senior students

I definitely wouldn't say his apps are only for push hands but yes some of them do need to be looked into further
