Posted by Takai on "the other empty forum" lol. It is Chen Xiang a disciple of Feng Zhiqiang but the title is mislabeled and it is xiao baji.

Stanford ain't no Harvard. LOL many times.

1. The spiraling momentum is from turning of hip, shoulder etc, but most important of all is actually in the turning of the step(feet), it is called grinding step or nian bu.

2. there is a stepping downward, it is called stomping, or zhen jiao, duo zhi jiao or just duo.

3. the sudden release of power or release the power only inch away from the target, it is called inch power or cun jin.

In old classics, they are called, nian, duo and cun.

it is nice to know that the lab is recording all these events with velocity, angulation and so forth.

cool.

or Just FA JIN.

a quote from the article about science behind ba ji;

1. due to gravity, when we produce a power or momentum toward one direction, there is also a counter power in the opposite direction produced at the same time. so the total balance is zero.

assuming our body is a system consisting of many particles, if we move one particle forward mass1xvelocity1 or m1v1, there is also a particle 2 going the other direction with m2v2. due to gravity to balance ourself m1v1=m2v2.

2. when we hit someone, that momentum of our body or fist turns into a force F·△t. the shorter the time, the bigger the force.

There are 3 major powers described in old classics or proposed and discussed by previous practitioners of the style.

1. downward sinking power. chen zhui jin 沉坠劲 or xia chen jin 下沉劲. the power is not coming from the movement of the body forward, but moving downward and right before we land our feet. when we land our feet, the power is already dispensed or all the moves are done.

2. cross power shi zi jin 十字劲 or hun yuan 浑圆(all around), we have a outburst of power from the center (dan tian) of the body and going outward toward the rest of the body and limbs in equal amount of energy. for example, our right hand forward has the same amount of energy that our left rear hand backward. Our palm pushing upward has the same amount of energy that our foot downward. Our elbow has the same amount of energy pushing outward as that from our knee. The shoulder the same with the hip etc etc. This is called nei li or nei gong.

3. silk reeling or chan si 缠丝.

For better understanding and characterization of the "powers" in Ba Ji.

I added 3 more.

1. Thrusting chong jin 冲劲: most important in the beginning or charging phase.

2. Extending cheng jin 撑劲:in the middle and final phase, there are extending powers from all of our body parts and limbs.

3. Inch cun jin 寸劲: the final phase or right before we hit the opponent and land our feet. It can also be used in the beginning to intercept and seize the opponent or cun jie cun na 寸截寸拿.

meaning we have all of the 6 characteristic powers in all ba ji moves and postures.

;D

http://bajiquanassoc.com/baji/main.htm

This is the offical site of Ba Ji Association (ROC , Taiwan)

There are many good genenral info.

It started out as a Ba Ji commission under Chinese Kuo Shu association in 1987 by GM Liu Yun Qiao to promote Ba Ji fist in Taiwan.

As time changes and more organization is needed.

The commission changed into Ba Ji Association in 1999.

There were 4 terms of executives since then.

1. Wang Jin Zhong

2 and 3. Lin Song Xian

4. Wang Zi Chai.

;D 8-) ;)

I dug that alot. I wish they would do more break downs of internal power generation(not to re-hash the old FIGHT SCIENCE) discussion. Really interesting though.

Why does the video keep saying taiji even though he was obviously doing baji moves?
