Karl Gotch Mace Training

Postby Andy_S on Sat Nov 29, 2008 3:16 am

The legendary wrestler - he was the father of pancrasse/shootboxing in Japan - shows mace training. At at guess, I'd say this training came from Hindu wrestling? Anyway, looks like a great workout for core and shoulders, though I am surprised to see that he looks a bit weak in the legs.

Mace swinging is great for the upper body and grip. I was surprised that despite some skill with weight lifting, trying to get 100 360 swings with a relatively light macebell was a tall order.

I do these with a 10 lb sledge, but am planning to make a homemade mace over the holidays.

more here about mace swinging http://maxwellsc.blogspot.com/2008/10/gitchy-gitchy-gada-ya-ya.html as well as some different training exercises from that part of the world

There's a seller on ebay who regularly sells an adjustable mace. It uses the old weight lifting plates with the smaller hole. I got that one so I don't have to buy each macebell sold on Torque, saves lots of money.

This stuff is awesome . . . this and my giant YSB saber are the only weights I lift anymore.
