This is specific to archery but I think the concept is relevant to any gongfu

It is definitely something to consider with long-term training. I like the symmetry of jibengong in baguazhang and xinyi liuhe quan. I’m currently working on strengthening my back and shoulders for archery (working towards mounted archery) and making sure to keep the conditioning bilateral and symmetrical. The longbow and some of the traditional Asian recurve bows (e.g., Qing dynasty) have heavier draws that present more of a challenge for stable draws shooting both sides. Bows for mounted archery competition temd to have lighter draws since speed and accuracy from horseback are more important in a target competition are more important than piercing armor.
Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.
