Nice one Rob :D My favourite part is where you punch the hippy in the belly then go back to standing with your hands in your pockets looking bored.

Bruno has asked me if I'd like to come and teach there next year, it does look like fun.

This is amazing - you get paid to punch hippies and they love it!

Life goal unlocked! ;D

;D Actually there is a reason for that. It's not so much boredom as detachment. In that one session I did healing work with 20-30 people. In those circumstances you sometimes have to distance yourself a bit from what is going on. Hence the look :)

Possibly I'm being overly unhumorous here, but....

If a “hippie” is someone who is into peaceful and loving behaviour and probably also an environmentalist, then it’s all good. Nobody here who deserves to be punched as punishment. Quite the opposite. If you mean “hippie” in the negative sense as used often used in the martial arts community – people who for instance do tai chi as a vague, exertion-free, just-wave-your-hands-in-the-air-and-smile activity, who apply no real discipline or rigour to their training but are convinced they are doing the 'grand ultimate', and are probably passive-aggressive hypocrites to boot – then in this case I think you might be being quite unfair to these people.

I see a lot of joy and also a lot of good training in this video, for instance.

Giles - I read that 3 times and I still can't quite work out what you mean....

I'm in no way criticising what Rob's doing, or am I advocating punching people as a punishment for being a hippie. I was just making a joke about a situation that looked a bit funny, but you know.. that one obviously fell flat. Heck, I probably am a hippie, according to your average Trump supporter.

Rob is the one doing the punching, so maybe you should ask him what his motivation is? I don't know.

Hi Graham,
What I mean is that you describe the seminar participants as "hippies" and then joke that it's the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition to punch them. I mean, I know you're being humorous but I still found the underlying assumption/prejudice a little questionable. As regards calling people "hippies", what's actually meant by that word (insult?) in general terms, and then whether this is applicable or not to the people in the video, or specifically to the guy taking a few of Rob's milder punches. Because of the guy's hair, or what?

Maybe for my part I have misunderstood you. Sorry if this is the case.

PS. I often appreciate your humour in the forum, I don't aim to be a Puritan in a stovepipe hat. ;)

I didn’t know that describing people as hippies would cause offence.

Swap ‘hippies’ for ‘people’ then.

The ‘joke’ was my incredulity that Rob was getting paid to punch people and they seemed to be enjoying it. Normally people don’t pay people to hit them, or even enjoy it. Thus it presented itself to me as an opportunity for humorous mirth, a little bit at Rob’s expense but I’ve known Rob for years and therefore assume a level of informality with him that I wouldn’t with people I don’t know. Alas, on the Internet where other people can read into these things what they wish it provides a perfectvstorm for offense. That’s modern life, I guess.

You can pretty much give up on having a sensible conversation on here these days.

Really enjoyed that Rob, looked like a very well thought out, and advantageous camp. Thanks for posting. :)
