The Lu Baochun videos are cool.

Shuaibei? What do you mean by that?

The term Tongbei means that each arm is connected to the other by wrapping around the upper back. Sort of like one arm pulls the other arm, and vice versa. The arms mutually supporting the other.

I like the way he does this one:

You can really see the full body stretch from fingers to toes at all times throughout the movements.

Yes, Lu Baochun is good.

His Yang Tai Chi teacher was Wei Shuren who promoted effortlessness...

I will never understand pushing where you follow your opponents arms out to the side of your body
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

It's basically the term that my Master uses to describe Tongbiquan/Piguazhang-like power. I explain some ways to train it and show some techniques with it in these two videos, respectfully:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb94tMqpn84&t=420s

Incidentally, my Master calls that art TongBIquan, as in the arms.

This is not the same person, but, yes, he looks really good. It is quite obvious to me that this man had real skill.

In my Master's method we focus more on being completely loose than stretching, but the way the core body moves is almost the same. It's like a combination of Tongbiquan and the Tanglangquan video in the OP.

I will never understand why so many people put so much emphasis on Tuishou in the first place - unless they wrestle a lot.

I see PH drills mostly as a beginners play, it can only teach you some basics about leading and following. But free push hands done right can teach you a whole lot about body movement. If you practice diligently a few years, you should have no problem to defend yourself from any kind of throw or take down. You won't need any kind of set techniques, or learn how to defend from this or that, as you will understand timing and distance, how to follow a body in motion, how to find gaps in structure & balance, and how fill in those gaps. It will all become completely intuitive, no need to think about this or remember that. Free Tai Chi PH practice done right is absolutely the best stand-up anti-wrestling and wrestling defence practice there is.

Very similar to the work we do here, hope gar/taiji / although his foot work doesn't seem to be
as tight as what we use...the basic idea seems to be the same..

When I read things like this(two quotes)I get somewhat determined that, Yup the “simple basic beginners”stuff is where I’m going to stay with....Now that might be an easy conclusion for me to set for myself since I have Kumite’ied, Free Tuishou’ed, Boxed a little and wrestled even lesser but still............Back to basic

Basics are great. Basics is IMO your foundation, something you should do all of the time and something you should have in your body all of the time regardless of what you do.

... and BTW, never said it was simple. ;)

My Master's style is very similar to what is seen in this video. He uses this very technique all the time, but a version from Xinyiliuhequan. His footwork is also more open, like this. Tighter footwork might make the hands tighter as well?? Not that that's a bad thing. Just different.

If you look at the image note the star patterns on the ground and the horse used. The foot work patterns coupled with with the horse
combines with what is called long arm,,,provides for a very unique way of dealing with position, distance and timing.
When I say loose, it doesn't seem as clearly defined. Tighter allows one to turn inside or cut their own circle...

What he does, why and how he does it is very similar.

circular foot work combined with circular hands.

That's pretty much exactly as my Master teaches it. I'm just not as good at it as he is, yet. I'm inching closer, though.
